The catalyst for the first Sport Is Fantastic conferences was a request from one of our clients as to how a particular issue was tackled in Europe. It made us realise that the sport business industry is more global than most.
Each of the many different sectors of the sport business industry operate differently and each of those sectors have their own challenges, concerns and opportunities. However, what is remarkable is those individual sectors are relatively similar globally.
Indeed. the original Sport is Fantastic conference was created as a response to a Sport Research Group client’s wish to determine how a particular issue was addressed by British clubs. Our response was somewhat akin to "give a person a fish and feed them for a day, teach them how to fish and feed them for a life time".
After investigating the issue and reporting back, we said to our client "we can write a report and tell only you or we can hold a conference, invite the person out and he can tell everybody" - clearly the client decided to share his new knowledge rather than hoard it; reflecting the coperative and non-competive nature of much of the sport business industry . There is a strong inclination to share knowledge and experiences and an equally strong desire to learn.
That ethos is fundamental to the Sport Is Fantastic conferences. Any sport business organization in Australia or New Zealand can learn from other sport business operations much from other sport business organization that have successfully faced similar challenges and opportunities; whether that second organization be 10 kilometers or 10,000 kilometres away.
